调光玻璃的调光原理是:在自然状态下(断电不加电场),它内部液晶的排列是无规则的,液晶的折射率比外面聚合物的折射率低,入射光在聚合物上发生散射,呈乳白色,即不透明。通电以后,有弥散分布液晶的聚合物内液滴重新排列,液晶从无序排列变为定向有序排列,使液晶的折射率与聚合物的折射率相等,入光完全可以通过,形成透明状态。
Principle of dimming glass: Usually(power off), the internal liquid crystal arranges irregularly and its index of refraction is smaller than the external polymeric substance's, so the incident light scatters on the polymeric substance which makes the glass become milk white, not transparent. While when the dimming glass is electrified, the internal solution in polymeric substance which contains the diffused liquid crystal will rearrange, therefore the liquid crystal will order regularly. In this occasion, the refractive index of the liquid crystal and polymeric substance will be equal, thus the incident light can come through the dimming glass completely which makes it become transparent.
调光玻璃主要用于有保密或隐私防护的场所,由其制成的汽车、机车、军用车等车窗玻璃就像电磁控制的窗帘一样,在需要遮蔽视线时断掉电源,使玻璃处于不透明状态;在需要采光或透视时合上电源,玻璃就透明了。
The dimming glass is mainly utilized in privacy and secret protection places. And window glass made of these dimming glasses for automobile, locomotive, and military vehicle is just like electromagnetic control curtain, when privacy is needed you can electrify the glass to make it opaque. While when light and sight are needed you can electrify the glass so the glass will be transparent again.
汽车、机车、军用车等调光玻璃车窗,在停车不使用时是不透明的,窃贼即使打开车门也无法将汽车开走,因为玻璃不透明,窃贼看不到前方的路,此时这种调光玻璃还能起到防盗作用。
